Ogden Skeleton Man Returns With A HUGE New Addition To The Bones Brigade

A skeleton scene by Ogden Skeleton Man from October of last year.

Ron Pippin, the Halloween enthusiast known as “Ogden Skeleton Man,” is back with his daily changing skeleton displays throughout October. This year, Pippin, who diligently presents a new skeleton scene on his front lawn every day from Oct. 1 to Halloween night, has something bigger in the works.

Pippin began the skeleton project in 2020 during the pandemic. His creative achievements have grown through the years, along with widespread amusement from the local community and afar through social media. This year, he’s constructing a bigger-boned friend.

Pippin said the new giant skeleton is taking more time and money than expected but hopes to have it done by Halloween. He’s currently at work shaping and painting the huge skelly, which will be around 12 feet tall when completed. The head alone will be around seven feet tall, the hand an estimated nine feet.

After searching for a year, he found foam blocks for the bony structure in a farmer’s field in Wyoming, a seven-hour drive away. The blocks were yellowed and required a lot of scrubbing and spraying. Next, he started the carving.

To meet the Oct. 31 deadline, Pippin announced on his social media pages that he purchased an electric chainsaw to shape the head.

His plans for the other skeletons are a feat on their own. The displays are known for their relatable scenes, humorous because they’re just doing normal family things: playing games like horseshoe and tug-of-war, fixing a truck, dancing, riding tractors, or dressing up as pioneers or Wizard of Oz characters. No scenes are repeated two years in a row, and most are brand new.

Once again this year, Pippin will display a new skeleton scene every day in October in front of his home at 26th Street and Fillmore Avenue in Ogden. The giant skeleton is slated to make an appearance by Halloween.
