Standards & Substandards is the easygoing quartet made up of Caryn Crowley (vocals/diva), Tim Herzog (bass), Adam Johnston (piano), and Ian Marshall (drums). With roots in jazz traditions and branches reaching out to everything else, they expand the American songbook to include not only “standards” but also their own jazz interpretations of contemporary and classic songs from The Beatles to Beyonce: “We’ll just as happily perform an upbeat vocal arrangement from the Gershwin brothers as a bluesy torch song from Nina Simone; and we’ll gleefully blur traditions of funk, pop, rock, and blues as the spirit moves us.” Standards & Substandards can be found playing stages, lounges, weddings, and backyards throughout northern Utah. substandards.band
Referred to as Ogden music “royalty,” Korene has played with musicians all over Utah and beyond in her decades-long career that began in Provo when she saw the 1980 film “The Coal Miner’s Daughter.” From western tours to Ogden Music Festival and (recently) Ogden City Limits docuseries, Korene lights up every stage with her own style of Loretta Lynn-inspired country/rock. @korene.greenwood

GINGER AND THE GENTS, SALDURO
The Ogdenite presents ‘Femme As Folk,’ a new multi-genre music series featuring women, transgender, and nonbinary musicians at Lighthouse Lounge every Friday and Saturday in March. It is also an awareness campaign promoting full gender equality in the music industry: Book More Womxn!

GINGER AND THE GENTS
Chandra Marie of Ginger and the Gents has been writing and singing nearly her whole life. In the words of her late father, “She came out singin’ and swingin’!” In her early 20’s she rocketed from karaoke stages into original music projects, and has been honing her craft ever since. If you’ve ever seen her perform you know you’re there to feel and witness an artist who commands the stage with passion and movement.
As a queer, teenage mother in Utah County in the late 90s, Chandra’s love for the Indigo Girls wasn’t something she could have imagined would eventually turn into a life-fulfilling moment just last year. As she performed at the Equality Utah Allies Gala, two of her heroines, Amy and Emily of the Indigo Girls, met Chandra with compliments and kindness. With tears in her eyes, she thanked them both for presenting a full circle moment to the inner young queer kid inside— the young Chandra who sang “Closer to Fine” like a rally cry all those years ago surrounded by patriarchy and people who didn’t know what would come of her musicality.
With the Gents in tow, this rock ’n roll band has cut their performance teeth at all things Utah and then some, even venturing to LA’s famous Whisky a Go Go. The lyrics Chandra weaves into their heavy-hitting songs are pulled from her own life’s story as well as intertwining sentiments from the great women who have built the road that leads to the present.
In this Femme As Folk performance, prepare to feel as if you, too, are on stage, full of exuberance, pensive in moments, yet always enmeshed in the frisson that comes with powerhouse vocals and thoughtful songcraft.

Being musically unique both lyrically and rhythmically, Fur Foxen showcases in the most intimate of spaces, or to the largest of crowds. What you’re left with is the sound of angst, love, lust, and loss, and an experience that demands the audience’s attention…and maybe a tootsie pop…

CHE ZURO
With her guitar slung low, Ché Zuro plays rhythmically & melodically, luring you in with her smooth alto voice and songs that feel familiar.
Compared to Aimee Mann, Sheryl Crow, and Melissa Etheridge, if you must compare, Ché’s rock band background & time frame are about the same but her songs, a mix of Beatles and Zeppelin to a Native American beat, make her stand out.
She paid her dues as a professional musician touring with her bands The Orchids, Trinity St., Population 5, et al, touring/recording with artists such as Charlie Sexton, Berlin, Josie Cotton Band, Dokken, Carmine Appice, The Photos, et al, as well as performing as a solo musician and with her female acoustic duo.
Ché has placed a few songs in feature films and has won awards for her songwriting in both the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the Billboard Songwriting Contest.
Among her 7 solo and duo recordings on Youghiogheny River Records, she recently released her record, Rivers and Rain, which contains tunes penned about the Pennsylvania neighborhood where she grew up.
More about Ché can be found at her official website, checheche.com, on her Facebook music page facebook.com/CheZuroMusic, and Instagram @chezuro.

THE PROPER WAY, ORCAMIND
The Ogdenite presents ‘Femme As Folk,’ a new multi-genre music series featuring women, transgender, and nonbinary musicians at Lighthouse Lounge every Friday and Saturday in March. It is also an awareness campaign promoting full gender equality in the music industry: Book More Womxn!
Tickets are $10 and available with cash or card at the door. Shows start at 8 p.m. Doors at 7. ALL PROCEEDS go to the artists and Rock Camp SLC. Venue is ages 21+.
ORCAMIND
OrcaMind is the band of @michelleheafy & @josiaheverhart. Their genre is a melodic blend of pop-rock/indie. Their music has been described as "pop-rock, with a ghost in the room", with their unique harmonies & chord voicings. The band livestreams their music daily on twitch, in between local shows. OrcaMind is the annual guest on Matt Heafy's Metal & Honey concert in FL, benefitting music therapy for Orlando Hospital. They recently played Van Sessions in Ogden, as well as several recent festivals at Velour. OrcaMind's second EP "REALM" is out now.
THE PROPER WAY
Standing off stage, Scott Rogers, Shane Osguthorpe, and Carrie Myers look like a stereotypical trio of folkies: Two older dudes with varying degrees of facial hair, a road-worn Stetson, and a younger woman in a floppy hat and flowing dress with pockets (pockets are crucial, according to Carrie).
In addition to a pile of original music that can be found on virtually all of the streaming platforms, TPW is adept at covering a seemingly infinite number of songs; but they virtually never play a single one as a straight cover. Their unique spin on songs keeps just enough familiarity to encourage singing along or dancing, but in ways that you’ve never heard. Think Prince or Lizzo with a banjo.
The group will often do all-request shows and is known for throwing down better-than-passable versions of songs for the first time right in front of audiences.
That’s The Proper Way.

SPIRIT MACHINES
Spirit Machines has hit the rock scene like an atom bomb.
With endorsements from rock legends TOOL and Nights With Alice Cooper, plus a hit single in the newly released game, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, you are discovering Spirit Machines at the perfect time... right before they hit massive mainstream success!
Spirit Machines is hard rock and features screaming guitar solos with melodic breakdowns over a furious rhythm section. Yet lead vocalist Pepper Rose’s voice makes it all easy on the ears.
There is something irresistibly catchy about every word she sings. But it’s more than just a catchy song. There is cathartic, healing truth. And that’s when you realize: Spirit Machines is about facing your deepest, darkest fears... and winning.

TALIA KEYS
Lessons is the latest album from Talia Keys & the Love, and unveils the kaleidoscopic vision of a motivated, inspired artist. A born leader and dynamic rocker who aims higher, digs deeper and circles the wagons to manifest the most ambitious work of her career. The guitar-shredding firebrand has fine-tuned her scintillating stew of high-octane blues and soulful R&B grooves, with the squad in tow to show and prove. Lessons finds Ms. Keys leaning into the intestinal strength and resilience inherent in her voice, with more clarity, consciousness, and swagger than ever. Coming out of the creative cocoon of the global pandemic, Keys steps into her power, sharing a selection of her strongest songs to date with a palpable urgency and a veteran band’s streamlined delivery.
Talia is an activist-musician who has laid a loyal local foundation in Salt Lake City clubs for over a decade, and later made her name on national tours and jam festivals from coast to coast. Keys’ vintage ethos, as well as her trademark fire and brimstone stage presence, are an amalgam of her journey, identity, and influences; a new twist on the rock n’ roll troubadour singing songs of struggle and ultimately, triumph. Lessons is a robust sound document that reflects a determined songwriter, principled artist and electrifying frontperson. In various band iterations over the years, Keys has supported an eclectic array of cultural stalwarts across multiple generations, including the Indigo Girls, Lukas Nelson and The Promise of The Real, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Michael Franti, and Thievery Corporation, among others.

DOOMCUPCAKE
Doomcupcake plays with the familiar heaviness of the early odds Nu-Metal sound and speaks to the angsty hearts of the modern era. Zaza Historia VanDyke built a name for herself in the coffee shops of Salt Lake City but found she needed something more than her voice and guitar. She gathered the heaviest musicians she could find and Doomcupcake was formed.
Somehow, reality TV star, Cashel Barnett, was the right man to play drums, Dave Crespo (of Cyberpunk featured band, Spirit Machines) on guitar, and Frederick Thorne (reputed Hollywood stuntman) on the bass, Zaza leads the band with sultry, raspy, soaring melodies. Dig into the heavy-hitting sounds and expressions of this up-and-coming band.
