We got you covered on all the details and lucky for you Christmas Village is far from over!
NEWS
What you missed:
At 4:30 p.m. our very own Deann Armes, Chief Editor and Founder of The Ogdenite ran the Santa 5K to kick off the night aside hundreds of others. With temperatures around 30-40 degrees, you’d think the iconic Santa costumes would keep you warm but it’s really the drinks after that do. Whether it’s hot cocoa from the kiosk in Tabernacle Park or a crafted adult beverage at Harp and Hound, it’s tradition to grab a drink during the holiday celebration!
By 5:30 p.m., thousands gathered across Washington Boulevard, eagerly awaiting the parade featuring 60+ floats, performance groups, and entertainers. Looking up at the historic Bigelow apartments, you could see the residents who didn’t brave the cold peeking from their windows.
At 6:30 p.m., Ginger Bess took the stage at the Ogden Amphitheater, delivering a stellar performance of Christmas classics. Accompanied by a talented pianist playing in fingerless gloves, they both delivered a heartwarming show. After their performance came to a close the parade winners were promptly announced by Regina Esparza of Ogden City.
So who won?
Best Use of Lights: #33 Snow Ride
Best Theme: #16 The Nutcracker
Grand Prize Winner: The Grand Marshall Float
Mayor Mike Caldwell then addressed Ogden, for one of the last few times before he steps down as mayor. He emphasized his support and recognition of the public works and public safety departments as they “worked in the dark of the night and the quiet of the morning to give you this amazing holiday experience.” And he proceeded to pour out his heart over Ogden stating: “It’s been an honor to serve as your major for twelve years.”
Honorary Mayor of Christmas Village, Dan Hoover, received a painting and symbolic key from Mayor Caldwell. Hoover worked for Swire Coca-Cola for 20 years during the day but in his off hours he's spent his free time giving back to his community through service and volunteer work.
Angela Choberka and Vice Chair Ken Richey also gave their wishes from the Ogden City Council and made a point to promote local shopping! If you’re looking to do some shopping this holiday season be sure to checkout OGDEN OVER AMAZON: WHERE TO SHOP LOCAL IN OGDEN — THE OGDENITE.
At 7 p.m., it felt like the 4th of July as Logan Knapp, the Grand Marshal and 8 year-old professional Leukemia butt-kicker pulled the lever, illuminating Christmas Village with lights all the lights and fireworks. Adding an exciting twist, 'The Grinch' made an appearance and, per character, almost caused a delay.
The rest of the night was spent by attendees checking out the Christmas Village and lights. So, who can you thank for such a wonderful and FREE event?
Ogden City Public Works
Ogden City Police
Ogden Commissioners Office
Ogden City Council
Sponsors & Hundreds of Volunteers
Tips for next year:
Arrive early to claim your spot along the float road and to grab a parking spot.
If you’re not a fan of sitting on the curb or standing, bring a folding chair!
Bring your own hot cocoa and don’t forget everything you pack in, pack it out.
Though allowed, spare your dogs the parade and fireworks noises and leave them at home.
Bundle up with beanies, scarves, gloves, and layers, and if you are feeling fancy several Ogdenites were spotted with nifty electronically heated jackets for extra warmth.
