Ogden, UT — A new local foods grocery store, Urban Prairie, opens its doors to the public on Saturday with a fun-filled soft opening and annual plant sale. Local producers will sell flowers, microgreens, and late spring plants like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, basil, lemongrass, and more while shoppers enjoy live music and treats.

It’s a big day for Anne Dunaway, a local grower and owner of Urban Prairie Agriculture, who has been working hard for years to open a grocery store in Ogden.

“This store is a group effort of many small food producers in our area,” stated Dunaway on the Urban Prairie Facebook page.

The soft opening will have onsite vendors like Heather from Calluna Flower Farm and Snow Cones. Local musician Zack Peterson will be providing live acoustic grooves.

Dunaway is a passionate social needs advocate who has been engaged with sustainable agriculture since the early 2000s. Her strong interest in the importance of low-barrier access to local food and sustainable agriculture led her to begin her own small business Urban Prairie Agriculture in 2019.

Saturday’s event is also a fundraiser for Grow Ogden, a first pilot farm by Eden Streets that employs those facing homelessness.

The building of the Urban Prarie grocery store is still in progress. Continuous minor updates are planned inside the growing space but Dunaway says she couldn’t wait to welcome everyone in for a first-look this weekend.
