Sarah Little Drum plays solo show in Ogden tonight
Ogden Independent News
On Instagram yesterday, Sarah Little Drum announced a solo show in Ogden at The Yes Hell, part of The Spice of Life Variety Show hosted by Madame Mackintosh every Tuesday night at the downtown bar.
Little Drum, Salt Lake City-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the hills of Northeastern Pennsylvania, opened for international folk icon Charlie Parr at The State Room in Salt Lake on October 8.
The packed audience full of Charlie Parr fans seemed to love Little Drum’s songs, she said. “It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop…it was an amazing life-changing night.”
She has played over 300 shows since she started gigging five years ago, appeared on the local radio station 90.9 KRCL, and performed at top SLC venues including Urban Lounge, Kilby Court, O.P. Rockwell, Garage on Beck, The Hog Wallow Pub, Quarters, Silver Star Cafe, Boneyard Saloon, and Metro Music Hall.
Tonight, from 7-10 p.m., the format of the show will be “in the round” with her and Brooke Mackintosh playing their own original songs and jamming together to each other’s tunes, “improvising to create a unique, one-of-a-kind show,” Little Drum stated on Instagram.
The name Little Drum is a direct Italian translation of Sarah’s last name, Tamburelli, which she now uses as a full time musician. A self-taught songwriter and player of the uke, guitar, accordion, tambourine, drums, and more, she started her music career at age 25 after David Bowie died and she decided to quit her day job in marketing.
Now the multi-genre artist plays in three bands—Backyard Revival, Uma Fuzz, and The Gorgeous Gourds—with 70 original songs written and a first album released this year, Question Show, with rock band Uma Fuzz.
Surviving on live gigs, studio session work for hire, and selling music and merchandise online and in-person is the new “day job,” for Little Drum.
Her music is described as “acoustic textures and poetic lyrics that blend with her surreal and seductive inflections to create a unique sound that she sometimes calls ‘Dream Torch’. Her sound is contemplative and heart opening, with subtle jazz and blues influences.” Bring tissues, says her bio at sarahlittledrum.com. “Her songs have been known to bring tears to the eye.”
