Resonomics: “This Is 40”
Ogden hip hop/rap artist Resonomics is back at it and “down to ride.”

October 29 welcomed the return of local hip hop artist Resonomics. His new album, titled “This is 40,” chronicles the changes we see in life as we grow out of our younger, rougher days.
To ease us into what lies ahead, the album starts off, and is actually bookended with, “Junction City (I Love This Place)”—a true love letter to the city of Ogden and “not an anthem” as the artist clearly points out. Produced by Gifted, who is local to Ogden, and featuring SA Lopez, it really takes you on a tour of the great city we live in.
Songs like “King of the Town” and “Excommunicado” bring us back to 90s style hip hop tracks about surviving, and what we have to do to do so, in a rougher than normal neighborhood; they also touch on the relationships and ways people perceive us because of this lifestyle.
The heart of the album centers around “Three Verses (Message to my Kids)” and “Down 2 Ride”. You can tell Resonomics has a passion and drive that comes from his family and these songs showcase exactly what they mean to him. “Three Verses” is a beautiful breakdown for each one of his three children, what makes them so different from one another and what makes them so special. A nice touch, in my opinion, on this tune is the intro sections each one of the kids gets on the track. “Down 2 Ride” tells a great story of finally coming together with the one you love and how the wait and all the struggle to get there was totally worth it.
Other tracks such as “The Love Zone,” “The Girlfriend Experience,” and “Never Leave” are straight up club tracks which compliment the tone of the overall album. “The Love Zone” is a banger with a massively infectious hook.
Overall, “This is 40” is a wonderful album that takes you on a journey. You really get to see into the life and story of Resonomics and understand a little more about the person as each track rolls on. There’s an overall theme of love and longing, which is not uncommon, but the approach is unique. The message landed and the album is definitely one you should be bumping as you “roll through my town.”
