Weekly restaurant & bar reviews

Wigs and Brunch at WB’s Eatery happens again this Sunday.

Here’s an excerpt from my review in this week’s Standard-Examiner:

Since the inaugural Wigs & Brunch on New Year’s Day 2020, “the one and only” Sequoia has delivered her unique blend of comedic drag to doting fans at WB’s Eatery every first Sunday. This weekend will mark 11 consecutive months of “happy Sabbaths” at the Ogden brunch spot.

My first visit to experience the NYC-style mashup of comedy bits, lip sync, as well as real (amazing) vocals performed by the BFA in musical theater-holder Sequoia, a.k.a. “the tallest tree,” was in March of last year. Going back for another dose of dopamine a la drag six months later was surprisingly different — it’s now a ticketed event, well-deserved and worth the $10, and even better.

What didn’t change was the packed space, filled with smiling attendees dressed to the nines in hats and heels with crisp dollar bills in hand, spilling out onto the sunny patio. The menu was similarly on point with WB’s classic brunch staples, as fun to say as they are to eat, like the “French Toast Sando” and “Ham & Egg Toasty,” with a long list of wistful craft cocktails to choose from like the Sao Paulo Pineapple Express or Acapulco Smoke, among others.

Sequoia brings different drag friends along with her from Salt Lake each month. October’s queens were London Skies, who did a wicked Shania Twain, and the very funny She’s Stupid, whose Jewel number “Hands” and Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” aroused genuine gut laughter.
