We asked Resonomics what inspired the ode to O-Town, the song “Junction City (I Love This Place),” and when he wrote it.

Resonomics: I wanted to pay homage to the city of Ogden and dedicate an entire song to it. It’s been done a few times before and that’s actually how I drew my inspiration for it. The first Ogden song I ever heard was back in the 20th century around the year 1999 by Rhagenetix and Boondoc and their group called Ghostgate. Sidenote, I learned how to write lyrics by watching these two create music back in those days.

Fast forward to earlier this year, when this song was still a thought in my brain, I decided I wanted to have it produced by Gifted. He had just produced my song “Sleight of Hand” and was the perfect choice because he has been making music in Ogden for decades.

I didn’t want to shoulder the burden of representing our town alone, so who better to ask for help than the person I started doing music with in 1999. None other than my road dog SA Lopez. I knew he would absolutely kill it. I shot him all the ideas I had for this song and the first verse which I had already written. I explained to him that I didn’t want any profanity, and that I wanted to really bring out the staples of the town and give shouts out to some of the friends and their businesses. He went right to work and had it back to me in like 2 days. The rest is history.

In 2007 I actually made a song about Ogden but I focused on more negative aspects of the place mainly because I was coming out of a darker period of my life. That song will never see the light of day.

Best line of the song:

“Shout out to the Raptors, but we them Ogden rappers, bringing mo-heat to everybody in them rafters”  -SA Lopez
