Ogden-based Sammy Brue and Salt Lake’s Hectic Hobo played at The State Room in Salt Lake City on Friday, February 24 in support of Alabama blues/folk artist Early James.

After a series of recent shows with his band, Brue played a solo acoustic set of songs from his new album “Dark Mode,” and returned to the first song he ever recorded, “I Know” (“I Am Nice” 2017).

James, a wordsmith whose gravelly voice has been compared to Tom Waits and Townes Van Zandt (it’s truly mesmerizing), praised Brue’s songwriting and Hectic Hobo who know how to “throw down.”

Hectic Hobo played tracks off their new album “American Bison.”

It was a stellar lineup of artists covering the spectrum of American roots sounds, with three rounds of great storytelling.
