The 4th Annual Dia de los Muertos celebration Presented by OFOAM will be at the Ogden Amphitheater with a colorful pedestrian parade, a Community altar, free concert with Las Cafeteras, and more on Saturday.

Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) presents the 4th annual Dia de Los Muertos en Ogden on Saturday, October 12, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ogden Amphitheater. This free community event celebrating Mexican culture and traditions will feature all-new activities in its new downtown location, a beautiful main altar, and the celebrated East L.A. band Las Cafeteras.

This year’s exciting new additions include a pedestrian parade, local music by a Mexican banda, and a free concert with Las Cafeteras, returning to Ogden after their highly acclaimed performance at the Ogden Music Festival in June.

Las Cafeteras is on a three-week national tour in support of their third full-length studio album “A Night In Nepantla,” a fusion of traditional Mexican folk and electronic dance beats featuring several popular guest artists. Their electrifying live performances have earned them global acclaim and praise on NPR, Latino USA, PBS, L.A. Times, and more. 

Frontman and singer Hector Flores, says, “As a band, we deeply resonate with the land of ‘Nepantla’ and feel that we live in the middle of multiple worlds, sounds, and identities, and this album brings people together to sonically join us in our joy, grief, struggle, and liberation in Nepantla.”

Las Cafeteras will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. following live entertainment scheduled throughout the day.

Dia de Los Muertos en Ogden is organized by a team of Hispanic/Latinx Ogdenites. Committee member Yesenia Salgado emphasized the event's inclusive nature, stating, “This event is for everyone. We want to share the beautiful Mexican tradition of Dia de Los Muertos with the entire community, inviting everyone to remember their loved ones.”

Salgado encourages community members to join the pedestrian parade with photos of their loved ones for the altar. She envisions the event growing in scale and significance each year, aiming to create an immersive experience that transports attendees to the heart of Mexico.

“I want people to feel like they are in Mexico and to spark conversations about the loved ones they will be honoring on their altars, whether it be a family member or a pet,” she said.

Live entertainment includes Las Cafeteras, Mariachi Fuego de Utah, Tamborazo Diamante De Utah, Yunuen Carrillo, Nathan Carrillo, Tribalovedance, Ballet Folklorico Eck, Ben Lomond Bagpipers, Emma Almanza, Abraham Moreno, Xanti Cabrera, and Ogden School District mariachi students. There will be captivating student art, a car show with altars, a lively mercadito full of local vendors, and delicious food. 

Dia de Los Muertos en Ogden is a shared tradition for the community to come together, celebrate life, and honor the memory of those who have passed.
