You never hear the same song twice with The Snarlin’ Yarns, an Ogden-based quintet that is not your typical string band. Their punkie-folk bluegrass sound is peppered with the spry verse of improvisational poet, Wisconsin-bred Abraham Smith, who also happens to be Ogden’s Poet Laureate and a Professor of Poetry at WSU. The other band members include Mara Brown (fiddle), William Pollett (guitar), Tommy Dolph (uke), Ryan Ridge (bass), and Jason Barett-Fox (banjo).
This Friday night at Lighthouse Lounge, the Yarns will be playing songs from their debut record, “Break Your Heart,” (2020) and brand new songs off a second album set to be released this spring. Both records were produced by Matt Patton, the bass player from the Drive-By Truckers, and engineered by Bronson Tew of the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

The Swinging Lights are a five-piece SLC-based band whose high-energy Americana-country-rock sound has been compared to bands like Wilco and The Band. The band consists of members Chris Hanna (Guitar/ Vocals) Justin Carrell (Bass/ Vocals) Brad Barlow (Keyboards/vocals), Wayne Burdick (Drums), and Elliot Goldman (Guitar/ Vocals).
The Swinging Lights have written, produced, and released three studio albums— "Birds of Prey", "Trouble with the Truth”, and their newest "Smokestacks" (July, 2021) that was recorded at the famous “living room studios” and features the last published musical talents of the studio's owner/operator, and Swinging Lights bandmate, Herc Oppenheimer. The album is described as “soulful, twangy, with lyrically infused goodness.”
