GORDON GREENWOOD & THE HURT MAKES OGDEN FEEL GOOD
The soulful Ogden-based five-piece is gearing up for their Brewskis debut on Saturday night.

The historic Brewskis, a hot spot on Ogden’s Historic 25th Street since it opened in 1994, continues its legacy of bringing good music to “Junction City.” Gordon Greenwood & The Hurt, a band made up of established and highly-regarded local musicians, will make their debut at the iconic sports bar on Saturday, June 24 at 9 p.m.
Gordon Greenwood is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of funky soul music. The new band is made up of some of Greenwood’s dream list of musicians that came together during the COVID pandemic: Greg Shaw (bass), Eric Stoye (drums), Brian “Nucci” Cantrell (drums and percussion), Tanner Williams (percussion), Gordon Greenwood (vocals, guitar) and a revolving cast of keyboarders JD Rouillard, Ryan Conger, and Adam Fifield.
Born in Ogden to musician parents, Greenwood grew up on stage, touring with them from a young age. His first performance was at age three singing Tom Petty’s “The Great Wide Open.”
Early on, Greenwood had opportunities to play at community events, like the annual Ogden Arts Festival (where he chipped a tooth on the microphone on stage and kept on playing)—experiences that helped shape his music. He was constantly surrounded by professional musicians throughout his Ogden upbringing, whom he collaborated with on various projects. And he frequented the legendary Mojos, an all-ages venue that was the birthplace of many musicians in the Ogden music scene.
Greenwood has opened for some big names in music: Warren Haynes, Junior Brown, Willie Nelson, Amos Lee, Kingfish, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, Elle King, and more. And he’s played with a long list of renowned musicians including Tony Holiday, Jordan Matthew Young, Monty Powell, The Drifters, Andy Frasco, Kris Lager, and The Wailers.
After going on the road with Utah-Memphis blues musician Tony Holiday, Greenwood’s music aspirations shifted. The experience made him fall in love with creating new music and finding his own voice. His honest songwriting reflects his life and experiences—and who he is; soul is his truest sound, and music is his heart and soul; he can’t imagine life without it.
The band plans to start recording their original music soon.
