New Distraction returns to Lighthouse Lounge on Friday, June 16, at 9 p.m. with local folk-rock band Giants in the Oak Tree.

New Distraction brings a new buzz to the Ogden music scene, rockin’ a Sting-style sound similar to 70s/80s rock bands like The Police but with their own catchy originals and a pop of surprising new wave covers.

Led by three great musicians—Jake Martin (guitar/vocals), Nate Meredith (bass), and Chris Petty (drums)—New Distraction shows are a fun trip back to pop-reggae-rock of the good-ole Gen X times, and a dance party for everyone to celebrate the here and now in Ogden.

Nate Meredith says:

“Inspired by earlier power trio bands like The Police and the John Mayer Trio, the three of us, all university-trained musicians, became official in 2020 with our single release of ‘She Does What She Wants.’ Since our coming together, we've played from Logan to St. George, including appearances at Sundance Film Festival and opening for Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night.”

With more original recordings planned to be released later in 2023, you can hear them early played live on Friday. Follow and listen to New Distraction here.
